The lecture “Civilization, Climate Crisis & South Korea's Rise as a Nuclear Energy Powerhouse” will be given by Professor Yoo Ki-Pung on Monday, March 25 at 5 pm in Room 0.06. Professor Yoo Ki-Pung is the president of KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), a Korean university specializing in nuclear energy education. Prof. Yoo's visit is connected with the signing of a new agreement between KINGS and UW, based on which a European nuclear power training center will be established at the UW Physics Department.

The University of Warsaw has been training specialized personnel for the Polish nuclear sector since 2011, initially in the field of nuclear energy and chemistry, later also in the fields of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear chemistry and radiogenomics organized by the Faculty of Chemistry, as well as in the specialty of nuclear reactor physics in the physics major organized by the Faculty of Physics. This year, the UW Physics Department is also launching a 3.5-year nuclear engineering degree program.

KEPCO International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS) has been supporting the UW in educating students for years. In July 2020, the University of Warsaw signed the first of the cooperation agreements with KINGS, under which several UW students gain unique practical competencies at KINGS each year. In 2022, the cooperation between the two universities expanded to include distance learning. The new agreement, which calls for the establishment of a European nuclear training center at UW's Department of Physics, is another step toward further fruitful cooperation between the two universities.
