On July 6-7, the Rector of the University of Warsaw, Prof. Alojzy Z. Nowak, participated in the event the 1st V4-ROK University Presidents Forum for Nuclear Industry Human Resource Development. The meeting was organized in Seoul at the initiative of the President of the Kepco International Nuclear Graduate School (KINGS), Prof. Ki-Pung Yoo, and was aimed at exchanging information and strengthening relations between the rectors and staff of the most important universities of the Visegrad Group countries involved in training workers for the nuclear sector and their Korean counterparts.

The Faculty of Physics UW was represented at the meeting by prof. Krzysztof Turzyński, vice Dean for Student Affairs, and prof. Agnieszka Korgul, coordinator of academic cooperation between UW and KINGS. In addition to academics, the event was also attended by politicians and ambassadors. UW Rector Alojzy Z. Nowak chaired a session of presentations by Central European polytechnics providing training for nuclear engineers and moderated a discussion on a model for a modern study program in this field. There was also time to try to get to know Korean culture better through visits to the Global Knowledge; Exchange Center and the historic royal palace of Changgyeonggung. This was the first meeting of its kind with such a broad scope; there have been bilateral inter-university meetings before; in particular, in November 2022, prof. Ki-Pung Yoo visited our university.

The University of Warsaw has been training specialized personnel for the Polish nuclear sector since 2011, initially in the field of energy and nuclear chemistry, and later also in the fields of radiopharmaceuticals and nuclear chemistry and radiogenomics organized by the Faculty of Chemistry, as well as in the specialty of nuclear reactor physics in the physics major organized by the Faculty of Physics. In July 2020, the University of Warsaw signed the first of the cooperation agreements with KINGS, under which several UW students gain unique practical competencies at KINGS every year.
