Prerequisites:
- Fundamental knowledge on nuclear engineering
- Knowledge of partial differential equations
- Basic knowledge of the fluid dynamics
Course objective:
- To access to state-of-the-art research and development status of modeling and simulation for nuclear reactors.
- To acquire the fundamental knowledge of thermal hydraulic simulation for nuclear reactors.
- To learn how to discretize and solve the governing equations of nuclear thermal hydraulic codes.
- To acquire a practical knowledge of the numerical method by developing pilot codes for conceptual problems.
- To learn how to use CUPID for a future application to advanced nuclear reactor design.
Classroom Guide:
- This class focuses on acquiring practical knowledge of nuclear thermal hydraulics. Students are encouraged to bring their laptop computers (WINDOWS OS) to class.
- It would be helpful for students to pre-install Visual Studio, Intel Fortran, and Paraview, all of which are available for free download.
